A sea of Egyptian supporters lights up the stadium as fans honour the Pharaohs after their best-ever World Cup run.

CAIRO, July 14: Thousands of Egyptian supporters gathered at Cairo Stadium the day before yesterday to celebrate the national team’s return from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following the Pharaohs’ best-ever campaign in the tournament’s history.

Egypt’s World Cup journey came to an end in the Round of 16 with a narrow 3-2 defeat to Argentina. The Pharaohs had held a two-goal lead until the final 10 minutes before the defending champions staged a late comeback, but Egypt’s impressive display earned widespread praise at home and abroad.

The celebration featured a spectacular entrance for the players and coaching staff, led by head coach Hossam Hassan, as they arrived on an open-top bus to a roaring reception from the fans. Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush and Hamza Abdelkarim were not present at the event.

The ceremony included entertainment performances and a screening of the team’s most memorable moments from the tournament on giant screens, with supporters reliving the goals and highlights that shaped Egypt’s historic World Cup campaign.

The Pharaohs had earlier received a massive welcome upon their arrival at El Alamein Airport before being hosted by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who honored the delegation for achieving a landmark milestone by reaching the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in Egyptian football history.
