Cabinet Reviews Foiled Terror Plot, Warns of Firm Action Against Threats

KUWAIT CITY, March 25: Kuwait’s Cabinet reviewed details of a foiled terrorist plot targeting vital facilities in the country, as authorities reaffirmed their commitment to national security amid ongoing regional tensions.

During its meeting on Wednesday, the Cabinet was briefed by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Yousef Saud Al-Sabah on the security operation that successfully prevented the attack. He revealed that 10 Kuwaiti citizens belonging to a terrorist group linked to the banned Hezbollah organization were arrested following intensive monitoring and investigations.

According to the briefing, the group had coordinated with foreign entities and attempted to provide them with coordinates of targeted sites, posing a direct threat to the country’s security. Sheikh Fahd strongly condemned the actions of the group, warning of the serious risks such activities pose to national stability.

He stressed that security services will deal firmly with anyone involved in threatening Kuwait’s security or cooperating with terrorist organizations, while praising the vigilance and dedication of security personnel. The Cabinet also commended the efforts of the Ministry of Interior and its agencies for maintaining safety and stability.

The Council expressed pride in the coordinated efforts of Kuwait’s military and civilian institutions, highlighting their high level of preparedness in ensuring the protection of citizens and residents. It also praised the armed forces for their steadfast response to ongoing regional developments.

In a key legal step, the Cabinet approved a draft decree-law establishing specialized criminal courts to handle cases related to internal and external state security, as well as terrorism-related crimes. The draft has been submitted to His Highness the Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for approval.

The Cabinet reiterated its strong condemnation of recent Iranian attacks targeting energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, describing them as actions that escalate tensions and undermine regional stability. It also expressed appreciation for the efforts of security agencies in neighboring countries in dismantling terrorist networks and sleeper cells.

Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah briefed the Cabinet on the latest regional and military developments, including his recent inspection tour of military bases to assess readiness levels. He praised the armed forces for their discipline, vigilance, and high morale in carrying out their duties.

The Cabinet reaffirmed its rejection of all forms of terrorism and expressed full solidarity with countries taking measures to safeguard their security. It also urged citizens and residents to remain cautious, stay indoors unless necessary, and follow official guidance, especially amid unstable weather conditions affecting the country.
