KUWAIT CITY, Feb 28: All eyes are today on the press conference to be held by the majority bloc ahead of the Constitutional Court’s session scheduled for Wednesday to resolve the issue related to the membership of MP Dr. Bader Al-Dahoum. His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled calls for steps to unveil the new Cabinet formation.

A source close to His Highness affirmed that the features of the formation are almost complete after the consultations that took place during the national holidays.

The source indicated that the list of names is currently under review, in preparation for presentation to the political leadership for approval and announcement. He said, “His Highness the Prime Minister realizes that he has taken sufficient time and that he is required to select acceptable ministers from the representatives and political circles. Their role will be effective in setting up a program that is in line with the difficult conditions that the country suffers from due to the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic”.

The source said he expects the new government would be announced within the next week unless an unexpected surprise occurs. He indicated that filling the portfolios of Finance Ministry, Oil Ministry and the State Ministry for Planning and Development Affairs – which was the main focus – encountered a stumbling block due to the reluctance of its candidates to accept the ministerial positions.

The source said, “There are variables that make it necessary for the prime minister to remove some of the elements that caused tension with the members of the National Assembly, and to grant the Muslim Brotherhood Group a ministerial portfolio”. He explained that the prime minister took into account what was reported regarding the scientific qualification of one of the ministers in order to ensure that this matter did not recur.

In his selection of the new faces, he took into consideration the scientific qualifications, which were scrutinized to ensure their validity and integrity in order not to fall into the trap of skepticism. Meanwhile, MP Muhammad Al-Mutair, in his Twitter account, said, “After our meeting with the Minister of Interior in our office and his explanation of the health conditions, we decided with the MPs to transform the solidarity stand into a press conference to be broadcasted on social media on Monday with the participation of MPs and political figures in the office of MP Dr. Bader Al-Dahoum”.
