KUWAIT CITY, Sept 30: The Cabinet convened its weekly meeting Tuesday at the administrative building of Al-Shaheed Park (Phase III), chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sharida Al-Maousherji stated that the Cabinet approved a draft decree-law amending provisions of Companies Law No. 1 of 2016. The amendment waives formal notarization requirements for corporate actions, establishing Commercial Register entry as sufficient to render agreements effective against third parties. It also abolishes unincorporated joint venture companies and allows professionals to establish single-person professional firms, granting existing businesses a one-year grace period to adjust their status.
The Cabinet also approved a draft decree repealing Decree No. 240 of 2012, which established the Silk City and Boubyan Island Development Authority, and referred both drafts to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for final approval. Additionally, the Cabinet approved a draft decree- law restructuring the Zakat House Board of Directors under the chairmanship of the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, reducing board membership from 12 to 7 members to streamline operational efficiency. At the outset of the session, the Cabinet was briefed on a letter to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, inviting His Highness to the second GCC-EU Summit scheduled in Riyadh on October 24, 2026.
The Cabinet commended the address delivered on behalf of His Highness the Amir by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. It was also briefed on His Highness the Crown Prince’s participation in a joint multilateral session attended by representatives of Arab and Muslim countries and hosted by US President Donald Trump during UNGA High- Level Week. The Cabinet concluded by strongly condemning recent Houthi missile strikes targeting Taif and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia, reaffirming Kuwait’s complete solidarity with the Kingdom and stressing that Saudi security remains integral to the collective security of Kuwait and the GCC. Finally, the Cabinet reviewed several agenda items, reports, and minutes from ministerial committees, approving some and referring others to the relevant ministerial committees for study and the submission of appropriate recommendations.
