Businesswoman Jailed as Egyptian Partner Escapes in UK Housing Scam

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 10: The Court of Cassation issued a final and binding verdict to close the ‘fake student apartments’ case involving a businesswoman. The court rejected the final appeal of the woman, thereby upholding the original sentence of four years in prison with hard labor and a fine of KD1,152,000.

The businesswoman was convicted of deceiving several citizens. The case centered on her deceitful scheme targeting parents and students during the scholarship and study abroad season. She promised them apartments near universities in the United Kingdom, collecting substantial amounts as a reservation that was later proven to be fictitious.

After the exposure of the scheme, investigations revealed that her accomplice, an Egyptian, fled the country, while the businesswoman was referred to trial. Initially, the Criminal Court sentenced her to four years in prison and imposed a fine. However, the Court of Appeals overturned this ruling and acquitted her. This acquittal was subsequently overturned by the Court of Cassation. Her final request for reconsideration was rejected, as the court cemented the ruling against her as final and binding.
