KUWAIT CITY, Nov 4,: In just eight years since their inception in 2015, the first volleyball team at Burgan Club has achieved a milestone that eluded even teams established three decades ago. Over this short span, Burgan's volleyball team has notched positive and notable results, ultimately leading to their appearance in the final of the "Al-Ittihad" Volleyball Federation, the inaugural tournament of the 2023-2024 season. This achievement marks the first time the people of Burgan have reached a final match.
This accomplishment is the result of dedicated effort and hard work, initiated by the players, and followed through by the technical and administrative staff. The support from the club's board of directors played a crucial role, providing the team with the necessary resources and opportunities. Club president Anwar Al-Otaibi announced this milestone after Burgan's 3-1 victory over Kazma in the semi-finals, rewarding the players with 200 dinars for their advancement to the final, with the promise of doubling the prize in case of victory. This reflects the management's commitment and support for a team that has shone throughout the current and previous seasons.
It's worth noting that Burgan made its debut in the first division and swiftly ascended to the Premier League in the 2021-2022 season. In that same season, they reached the semi-finals, a remarkable achievement for a first-time entrant. The team is under the guidance of Argentine coach Alejandro Schneider and boasts Argentine professionals Lucas Ocampo and Serbian Irfan Hamza, along with Aziz Muhareb and Youssef Mandil from Al-Jahra, Nasser Shweiker from Al-Arabi, and Badr Johar and Abdullah Al-Manwaina from Al-Qadisiyah.
In an exciting turn of events, Burgan secured a 3-1 victory against Kazma in the semi-finals, while Kuwait also triumphed over Al-Qadisiyah with the same scoreline. The final match between "Al-Barqawiya" and the "Sons of Kaifan" is set for tomorrow, while Kazma and Al-Qadisiyah will compete for the third and fourth positions."
