KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: Burgan suffered a 30-27 defeat to Bosnia’s RK in the third friendly match of its training camp in Bosnia, as it steps up preparations for its upcoming commitments.
Burgan had played two other friendlies earlier in the camp and will round off its preparations with a fourth match next Wednesday before returning to Kuwait on September 20.
The Bosnia camp forms part of Burgan’s preparations for their historic appearance at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship, which will be held in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital from September 25 to October 1.
Burgan will travel to Cairo on September 23 for its final preparations. The draw placed them in Group B alongside Germany’s Füchse Berlin, hosts Al Ahly, and the winner of the preliminary clash between Hungary’s Veszprém and Australia’s Sydney.
Club president Anwar Al-Otaibi will head the delegation, which includes vice president Mohammed Nasser, handball director Abdulaziz Najib, and the coaching staff led by head coach Yaqoub Al-Mousawi. The delegation also includes fitness coach Saud Al-Sammak, assistant coach Nasser Bukhadhra, and performance analyst Faisal Al-Nassar, along with the players and foreign professionals, including Spaniard Ángel Hernández and Japan’s Yasuhiro.
Burgan earned its historic place in the Club World Championship after winning the Asian Club Handball Championship for the first time in June.
The achievement made Burgan the sixth Kuwaiti club to win the Asian title and qualify for the World Championship, adding another significant chapter to the history of Kuwaiti handball.
