KUWAIT CITY, May 24: The Burgan Club handball team takes on Egypt’s youth national team today in a friendly match, opening its warm-up schedule during the ongoing training camp in Cairo.

The camp forms part of Burgan’s preparations for the 28th Asian Men’s Club Handball Championship, which will be hosted in Kuwait from June 6 to 15 and serves as a qualifier for the 2027 IHF Super Globe in Egypt.

Burgan will meet the same Egyptian side again on the 28th, before wrapping up its friendly matches on the 30th against Qatar’s youth team.

In the championship draw, Kuwait’s representatives were placed in challenging groups. Host Kuwait Club features in Group B alongside Bahrain’s Al-Najma, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Khaleej, and Qatar’s Al-Arabi.

Burgan is in Group A with the UAE’s Sharjah, China’s CHA team, and Qatar’s Al-Duhail. It begins its campaign on June 6 against the Chinese side, followed by matches against Al-Duhail and defending champion  Sharjah.

The top four teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals, with cross-group matchups deciding the semi-finalists.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Club continues its preparations with intensive double training sessions under Algerian coach Saeed Hijazi, with players set to receive a short break during the Eid Al-Adha holiday.
