Burgan signs Angel Hernandez to boost Club World Championship campaign

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 12: Burgan Club has completed the signing of Spanish right-back Angel Hernandez as part of its preparations for the upcoming handball season and a busy international campaign.

The experienced Hernandez brings a strong résumé to the team, having previously represented the Portuguese side Porto, Qatar’s Al-Duhail, and Kuwait Club. He also spent a period on loan with Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly.

Hernandez becomes Burgan’s second foreign signing, joining Japanese player Yasuhiro. The club has also strengthened its local contingent with the addition of Al-Qadsia’s Abdullah Al-Attiyah and five players from Al-Salmiya — Hussein Salman, Bandar Al-Shammari, Mohammed Al-Bahar, Hassan Rajab and Youssef Rajab.

The latest additions are part of Burgan’s plans to assemble a competitive squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts. The management is seeking to strengthen key positions with experienced players while maintaining the core of the squad that delivered a historic Asian achievement.

Burgan is preparing for its biggest challenge yet — a historic appearance at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship in Cairo from September 24 until early October.

The team will begin an overseas training camp in North Macedonia on August 25, running until September 20. The camp will feature intensive training sessions and a series of friendly matches aimed at improving the players’ physical and technical levels before the Club World Championship.

Following the camp, the team will return to Kuwait before flying to Egypt two days later to complete its final preparations for the tournament.

The draw has placed Asian champions Burgan in Group B alongside German giants Füchse Berlin, hosts Al Ahly, and the winner of the preliminary-round clash between Hungarian side Veszprem and Australia’s Sydney.

Meanwhile, Kazma announced the renewal of Walid Al-Enezi’s contract for a third consecutive season. He will continue with the first-team handball technical staff as fitness coach, conditioning specialist, and performance analyst.
