Burgan shifts focus to youth volleyball after scrapping the senior team

KUWAIT CITY, Aug Burgan Club has decided to discontinue its senior volleyball team ahead of the 2026-2027 season, with the club opting to focus solely on age-group competitions from the junior categories through the Under-19 level.

Burgan Secretary-General Nawaf Al-Adwani said the board’s decision followed a review of the challenges affecting the team, including financial limitations, difficulties in securing professional contracts for players, and the absence of a dedicated training facility for daily sessions.

He explained that these factors made maintaining the senior team increasingly difficult at this stage, prompting the club to redirect its resources towards developing younger players and strengthening its youth structure.

Al-Adwani added that Burgan’s priority for the upcoming season will be to improve its age-group teams, develop emerging talents, and create a strong base capable of competing at a higher level in future seasons. He also wished all clubs and players success in the new campaign.

Burgan becomes the third club to withdraw its senior volleyball team from competitions, after Al-Jahra and Al-Tadamon.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Club has appointed national coach Meshaal Al-Sabti as head coach of its Under-14 volleyball team for the upcoming season.

Al-Sabti is considered one of Kuwait’s notable youth volleyball coaches, having previously worked with age-group teams at Al-Qadsia Club and the Kuwait national team, in addition to serving as an assistant coach with the national youth side.

The appointment is part of Kuwait Club’s strategy to develop a strong youth system and create a pipeline of talented players to support the club’s teams in the years ahead.
