Burgan set for North Macedonia camp ahead of the Club World Championship

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 10: Burgan is stepping up preparations for the 2026-2027 season, with its historic participation in the IHF Men’s Club World Championship in Cairo, Egypt, from September 24 to early October, the team’s top priority.

The Asian champion will hold a training camp in North Macedonia from August 25 to September 20, featuring an intensive training program and several friendly matches. The camp is designed to improve the players’ physical and technical levels and ensure they reach peak readiness for the global tournament.

The team will return to Kuwait after completing the camp, then travel to Egypt two days later to finalize preparations for the championship.

Burgan was drawn in Group B alongside German powerhouse Füchse Berlin, host Al Ahly of Egypt and the winner of the preliminary-round match between Hungarian side Veszprém and Australia’s Sydney.

Group A includes Spanish giant Barcelona, Morocco’s Montada Derb Sultan, Brazil’s Pinheiros and the winner of the preliminary-round encounter between Egyptian club Zamalek and Los Angeles of the United States.

Burgan will face a tough challenge against some of the world’s leading clubs after making history by winning the Asian Club Championship for the first time. The triumph secured the club a place at the prestigious global tournament.

Burgan has also moved to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season and their Club World Championship campaign, completing six new signings to give national coach Yaqoub Al-Mousawi greater depth and options.

The club signed Al-Qadsia player Abdullah Al-Attiyah and five players from Al-Salmiya — Hussein Salman, Bandar Al-Shammari, Mohammed Al-Bahr, Hassan Rajab and Yousef Rajab.

The new arrivals will join the existing squad, including Japanese professional Yasuhiro, as Burqan seek to build on their historic Asian success.

The reinforcements are part of the club’s strategy to strengthen several positions with experienced and technically capable players while maintaining the core group that delivered the historic continental title.
