Burgan players clean up individual awards at Asian Club Handball Championship

KUWAIT CITY, June 18: The 28th Asian Club Handball Championship for league champions concluded on Monday at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex, with the Asian Handball Federation announcing the tournament’s “Best Players” after a highly competitive edition that featured strong technical levels from all participating teams.

Burgan players dominated the individual awards, claiming four major honors, reflecting their impressive performances in their first-ever appearance in the continental competition. Al-Khaleej (Saudi Arabia) and Al-Duhail (Qatar) shared the remaining awards after also delivering standout displays throughout the tournament.

Burgan goalkeeper Egyptian Abdelrahman Hamid was named Best Goalkeeper, while Japan’s Kosuke Yasuhira won Best Player of the Tournament. Hussein Al-Mutawa was selected Best Right Wing, and Egyptian Mohsen Ramadan took the Best Left Back award.

From Al-Khaleej, Saudi player Mohammed Habib won Best Right Back, Abdullah Al-Hilali Best Left Wing, and Sayed Ali Best Pivot. Al-Duhail’s Mostafa Heiba earned the Best Playmaker award.

With this achievement, Burgan became the sixth Kuwaiti club to win an Asian title, joining Kazma and Qadsia (two titles each), along with Al-Fahaheel, Al-Sulaibikhat, and Kuwait SC (one title each).

Burgan Club chairman Anwar Zaid Al-Otaibi said the achievement “belongs to Kuwait,” emphasizing that it was the result of collective effort. He thanked the minister for his support and all those involved in the tournament’s organization.

Team director Abdulaziz Najeeb described the 28th edition as one of the strongest in terms of technical level, which increased the level of competition and pressure.

He added that Burgan’s players proved their quality and succeeded in achieving this “historic milestone.”
