Burgan opens Arab Club Volleyball Championship against Qatari team

AMMAN, Feb 19: The 42nd edition of the Arab Club Volleyball Championship for men kicks off today at the Sports Palace and Princess Sumaya halls in Amman, Jordan. The tournament features the participation of 12 Arab clubs.

The draw has placed Kazma in the first group alongside Omani club Al-Seeb, Libyan club Al-Ahly Benghazi, Bahraini club Al-Najma, Qatari club Al-Qatar, and Jordanian club Shabab Al-Hussein. The second Kuwaiti representative, Burgan team, is placed in the second group with Bahraini club Dar Kulaib, Qatari police, Libyan club Al-Suwaihli, Masafi from Northern Iraq, and Jordanian youth of Aira.

The opening round of the preliminary matches will see six games today, starting with Burgan facing the Qatari police at one o’clock in the afternoon. The subsequent matches include Dar Kulaib vs. Shabab Ayra, Al-Suwaihli vs. Masafi Al-Shamal, Al-Seeb vs. Al-Najma, Kazma vs. Qatar, and Shabab Al-Hussein vs. Al-Ahly Benghazi at four o’clock in the afternoon.Preliminary round matches will continue until the 24th of this month, with the tournament concluding on the 28th.

The participating teams, including “Orange” and Burgan, have prepared rigorously for the championship. “Orange” underwent a two-week external camp in Turkey, playing several trial matches. Coached by Javad Shamami, the team includes Bulgarian professionals Fino and German Igor. Meanwhile, Burgan prepared through local league matches and headed directly to Jordan. Led by Argentine Alejandro Schneider, the team includes Serbian professionals Irfan Hamza and Argentine Lucas Ocampo.The championship serves as a significant opportunity for both teams as they gear up for the semi-finals of the General League Championship.
