KUWAIT CITY, Feb 5: Burgan will make its debut today in the 4th West Asia Clubs Volleyball Championship, facing Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad at 6:00 PM. The tournament, hosted by Kuwait Club until February 14, features 11 teams and is being held at the Volleyball Federation Hall in Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex.
Earlier matches include Shabab Al-Batroun of Lebanon against Bahrain’s Al-Ahli at 1:00 PM (Group B), and Iraq’s Ghaz Al-Janoub facing Qatar’s Al-Rayyan at 3:30 PM (Group A).
The championship kicked off the day before yesterday. Host Kuwait Club opened with a 3-0 victory over Shabab Al-Batroun, while Al-Ahli of Bahrain defeated Al-Wakrah of Qatar by the same score. Qatar’s Al-Rayyan secured a 3-2 win over Oman’s Majees in a thrilling encounter.
Teams were divided into three groups, with the top two from each group and the two best third-placed teams advancing to the quarterfinals on February 10.
In other news, Qadsia Club has strengthened its roster by signing Bahraini player Mohammed Yaqoub for the remainder of the season. Yaqoub, a seasoned professional who has played for multiple Gulf and Asian clubs, is expected to make a significant impact as Qadsia prepares to resume the domestic league following the championship.
Additionally, Hussein Mahmoud has joined Qadsia on a one-season loan from Yarmouk Club to further bolster the team’s lineup.
