KUWAIT CITY, Sept. 19: Burgan’s first-team handball squad returns today after a training camp in Bosnia, where it played several friendly matches as part of its preparations for the IHF Men’s Club World Championship in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital from Sept. 24 to Oct. 1.
Burgan will travel to Cairo next Wednesday for the final phase of preparations. The Kuwaiti side has been drawn in Group B alongside German giants Füchse Berlin, hosts Al Ahly of Egypt, and the winner of the preliminary clash between Hungarian club Veszprém and Australia's Sydney.
The delegation is headed by club president Anwar Al-Otaibi. It includes vice president Mohammed Nasser, handball director Abdulaziz Najeeb, head coach Yacoub Al-Mousawi, fitness coach Saud Al-Sammak, assistant coach Nasser Bukhadra, and performance analyst Faisal Al-Nassar, along with the players and professional stars, including Spain’s Ángel Hernández and Japan’s Yasuhiro.
Burgan secured its place in the Club World Championship after winning the Asian Club Handball Championship for the first time in June, marking a major achievement for the club and Kuwaiti handball.
The tournament appearance is particularly significant, as Burgan becomes the sixth Kuwaiti club to win the Asian title and qualify for the Club World Championship, adding another milestone to Kuwaiti handball history.
