Burgan Club striving for third place against Oman

DOHA, Feb 28:The inaugural handball team of Burgan Club has completed its preliminary round matches in the Gulf Cup Winners Club Championship’s 40th edition, currently hosted by Al Arabi Club in Doha. The tournament will run until March 5, with Burgan set to face Oman at 4 pm today in the Lusail Hall as part of the final round. The third and concluding match within the same group will follow at six in the evening, featuring Al-Arabi Qatar and Al-Dair Al-Bahraini.

Having faced defeats in its previous two matches against Al-Deir and Al-Arabi, Burgan has been eliminated from contention for the Gulf title. Today’s match against Oman will determine the third-place team, which will then compete against the fourth-placed team in the consolation rounds on the upcoming Sunday.In the meantime, Al-Arabi and Al-Deir are slated to clash, deciding the first and second positions within the group after both teams secured their spots in the semi-finals during the previous round.

As it stands, Al-Arabi leads the group standings with 4 points, edging out Al-Dair in second place based on goal difference. Burgan is in third place, while Oman sits in fourth place without any points.Sameh Al-Hajri, the manager of Kuwait Club, emphasized that “Al-Abyad’s” participation in the tournament is geared towards defending the title won last year against the Bahraini team on their home turf. Al-Hajri expressed ambitious goals, citing the unwavering support from the club’s board of directors, led by Khaled Al-Ghanem.

He further stated that Kuwait Club faces numerous upcoming obligations this season, including the Super Cup, the League Championship, and the Al-Ittihad Diamonds locally, in addition to external commitments. Adequate preparation for each tournament is deemed crucial by Al-Hajri.
