Burgan aims for a strong finish against Veszprem at the Club World Cup

CAIRO, Sept 28: Burgan will face Hungarian powerhouse Veszprem at 5:45 pm today in their final Group B preliminary-round match at the Handball Club World Cup in Cairo.

The Kuwaiti side is seeking a strong finish to its historic debut after suffering a 35-17 defeat to host Al Ahly in the second round. Burgan struggled to keep pace with the Egyptian champion in front of its home crowd.

The challenge gets even tougher against Veszprem, who is among the tournament favorites. The Hungarian side enters the match after a thrilling 34-33 victory over German club Füchse Berlin.

Burgan began its campaign against Füchse Berlin before facing Al Ahly, and will now complete the preliminary stage against Veszprem.

Other matches today include Zamalek vs. Brazil’s Pinheiros, Barcelona vs. Morocco’s Derb Sultan, and Füchse Berlin vs. Al Ahly.

In the second round, Barcelona defeated Zamalek 39-29, Pinheiros beat Derb Sultan 37-22, while Sydney University overcame Los Angeles 27-23.

Burgan’s coaching staff and players will look to build on their experience against Veszprem and deliver a more disciplined performance. The tournament marks a landmark moment for the club after their Asian Club Championship triumph earned them their first-ever appearance at the global event.
