KUWAIT CITY, Apr 16: Detectives in Hawally have referred a building watchman (Haras) to the Public Prosecution on charges of fraud and embezzlement after he allegedly misused his position to collect rent payments from tenants without forwarding the money to the landlord.

According to security sources, two Egyptian expatriates filed a complaint stating they were asked to pay overdue rent despite having already handed over their monthly payments to the watchman over time. The victims said they trusted the elderly guard due to his long-standing presence in the building, where they had lived for nearly two decades. They also noted that a fellow resident had witnessed the guard receiving rent payments during the disputed period.

Following the complaint, a case was registered and referred to the Criminal Security Sector, where investigators launched a probe. During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to receiving the rent money but failing to deliver it to the property owner.

Investigations confirmed that the total amount embezzled reached KD 3,150. The suspect has since been referred to the competent authorities for legal proceedings.
