KUWAIT CITY, Feb 21: An Arab expatriate employed as a building caretaker 'Harris' has been remanded to the Central Prison after allegedly betraying a homeowner’s trust and stealing gold worth approximately 750 dinars from an apartment in the Hawally area.
According to a security source, the case unfolded when a Kuwaiti citizen reported to Hawally Police Station that his wife’s gold had vanished from their bedroom safe. The complainant told officers he had handed over the apartment key to the building guard under the pretext of cleaning the flat while his wife was away.
But upon returning home from work, he was met with a shocking scene — the bedroom safe had been forced open, and gold jewelry he had purchased for his wife, valued at around 750 dinars, was gone.
A theft case was immediately registered and referred to the Criminal Investigation Department. Detectives moved swiftly, apprehending the suspect and confronting him with the evidence. Under questioning, the Harris allegedly confessed to stealing the gold and selling it to a friend.
Police attempted to contact the alleged buyer, but his phone was found switched off — raising suspicions he may have deliberately cut communication after learning of the arrest.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect had not left the country. His name was placed on the travel ban list pending legal action. He has since been transferred to the Central Prison as investigations continue and formal proceedings move forward.
