LOS ANGELES, Oct 24, (Agencies): In a new documentary, BTS' Jimin reveals a side of himself that's quite different from the incandescent performer we see on stage.
Titled "Jimin's Production Diary," this documentary, which you can stream on Weverse, provides an intimate look at the creation of Jimin's first solo album, "FACE." It takes fans on a journey that's sometimes challenging, often heartwarming, and occasionally quite humorous.
Jimin, at the age of 28, became the third member of BTS to release a documentary about their solo projects. These projects have become increasingly significant as the group prepares to fulfill South Korea's mandatory military service. Unlike J-Hope's "In the Box," which showcased his historic headlining performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago in 2022, or Suga's "Road to D-Day," which followed the rapper on a creative journey around the world with appearances from famous figures like Halsey and Steve Aoki, Jimin's diary takes a more intimate approach.
The majority of the documentary unfolds within a few rooms, including a cozy recording studio at the Hybe record label headquarters and the Supreme-adorned apartment of one of BTS' longtime collaborators, producer Pdogg. This scaled-down perspective offers fans a unique opportunity to get to know a different side of the superstar. Here, Jimin can be seen donning a beanie and sweatpants, a far cry from his sparkling stage outfits. More importantly, the documentary highlights Jimin's struggle to authentically convey his own story and find his voice as a songwriter.
Throughout the documentary, viewers witness Jimin pacing restlessly around Pdogg's home studio, kitchen, and coffee table. Together with a handful of collaborators, they work on lyrics and hooks. In moments of inspiration, Jimin, a lifelong dancer, spontaneously breaks into freestyle dancing to the tracks. In moments of frustration, he humorously face plants onto the sofa or curls up amid recording equipment, his bucket hat pulled low.
Jimin also reveals his talent for crafting infectious melodies, not only with his voice but also on an acoustic guitar and, in a particularly lighthearted moment, on the keyboard. He playfully tinkers with a snippet of a childhood tune, a haunting circus-like melody that ultimately becomes the opening track, "Face-off," on his album.
For longtime BTS fans who have observed Jimin's journey in making his previous one-off solo tracks, this documentary is sure to be an emotional experience. Self-doubt still lingers, but so does his radiant enthusiasm as the songs take shape, often culminating in joyful dances that burst out of him.
