LOS ANGELES, Nov 2, (Agencies): Brooke Shields experienced a health scare just before her one-woman show, and an unexpected savior came to her aid. The 58-year-old model and actress shared that she suffered a grand mal seizure while preparing for her performance of “Previously Owned by Brooke Shields” at New York City’s iconic Café Carlyle, a renowned performing arts venue and restaurant.

“I was getting ready for the show, and I was drinking a lot of water, not realizing that my sodium levels were low,” Shields recounted. “I was waiting for an Uber, and as I descended the stairs, I started to appear strange. The people I was with asked, ‘Are you okay?'”

She went on to explain that she left her home but kept being asked if she was alright and needed coffee by her companions. Feeling disoriented, she walked to a nearby New York City restaurant, L’Artusi.

“…I approached the waiter, who had just spent an hour watching my rehearsal… Everything started to go dark. Then my hands fell to my side, and I hit the wall headfirst,” Shields detailed.

This marked the onset of the grand mal seizure, which Shields described as “foaming at the mouth, turning blue, and struggling to prevent swallowing my tongue.”

“The next thing I remember, I’m being loaded into an ambulance. I have oxygen on. And Bradley Cooper is sitting next to me holding my hand,” Shields shared. “I didn’t have a sense of humor. I couldn’t really get any words out. But I thought to myself, ‘This is what death must be like.’ You wake up, and Bradley Cooper is saying, ‘I’m going to the hospital with you, Brooke,’ and he’s holding my hand. And I’m looking at my hand, I’m looking at Bradley Cooper’s hand in my hand, and I’m like, ‘This is odd and surreal.'”

Shields revealed that the waiter at L’Artusi initially tried to reach her husband, Chris Henchy, but ended up speaking to an assistant who contacted another assistant, ultimately reaching Bradley Cooper. The connection between Cooper and Shields goes back to their appearance in the 2008 horror film “The Midnight Meat Train,” and they’ve been spotted spending time together in the years that followed.

Upon her arrival at the hospital, doctors suspected her brain was seizing and had EEGs, catheters, and IVs ready. She explained, “I was stuck. And then they put me into ICU, and that’s where I got bronchitis.”

In the end, doctors determined that the seizure was caused by low sodium levels due to excessive water consumption. Shields admitted, “I essentially drowned myself. If you don’t have sufficient sodium in your body, urine, or blood, it can trigger a seizure.”

Shields now places more emphasis on maintaining the health of her major organs rather than striving for a specific physical ideal.
