British Ambassador Lewis visits Shakespeare’s tomb in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 25: British Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis visited the tomb of the former British Commissioner in Kuwait, Captain William Shakespeare, in honor of his memory. The embassy said in a statement that Captain Shakespeare is considered the second British commissioner who was appointed in Kuwait, and he held his position from 1909 until his death on January 24, 1915.

He was a close friend of the late Sheikh Mubarak Al-Kabeer, and one of his achievements was the introduction of the postal service to Kuwait. During this visit, Issa Yahya Dashti, a researcher in Kuwaiti-British relations, joined the British Ambassador to observe a minute of silence and honor the anniversary of the death of the late diplomat and explorer.
