KUWAIT CITY, May 24: The British Academy of Sport (BAS) organized its third Awards Evening at the Shakespeare Theatre on the BSK campus where more than 250 parents and students celebrated a fabulous sporting year in style. The Head Coaches from the 10 different sports courses on offer at BAS selected the best 90 students from almost 2000 who registered for Sport Activities from September 2016. These included Basketball, Football, Roller Skating, Gymnastics, Kick Boxing, Swimming, Tennis, Karate, Zumba and Table Tennis. The evening lauded the students and the skills and experiences they have developed at BAS and where they have developed their motto to be Strong and to be Active. BAS continues to lead the way in Kuwait as the only Sports Academy offering more than 10 Sports Courses for children and adults.For this special evening BAS welcomed Board members Sadiq Al Mutawa and Madame Vera Al Mutawa MBE as well as HE the Romanian Ambassador Daniel Tanase, HE, the Palestinian Ambassador Rami Tahoub, HE the Serbian Ambassador Vladimir Kohut, and many other guests including Diplomats from the Australian, Russian, and USA Embassy who joined Seniors Managers from BSK, TSK and Mrs Najida Abdulla the Country Manager from ITL Travel World Management, the Platinum Sponsor for BAS. The event was also given exclusive coverage by Times Kuwait, the Media Partner for BAS.BAS Director, Lucian Anisia, gave a glowing report of the year’s main events and introduced an engaging video presentation with clips from the overseas trips to Greece and Ireland, the Basketball and Volleyball tournaments for men and ladies as well as the courses. The stage was weighed down tables of trophies and medals which were presented by an array of Ambassadors and VIPs to the Most Improved, the Best Technique and Coach’s Award for each sport.Apart from the individual sporting categories BAS offered two special Awards. Firstly, for Abdulmahdi Al Aoud who received the Global Traveler Award as he completed four international sports trips with BAS and secondly, a Special Award was presented to Yaqoub Abdulmushen as a Special Achievement Award having started Swimming classes with BAS in 2012 and now he won the Bronze Medal in Iceland at the Swimming Competition for the Kuwait Swimming National Team.This year’s expanded schedule of tournaments included in November -The Second International Basketball Tournament “Challenge Cup” where 12 countries participated and the Cup was taken by the Egyptian Team. In March, with the Serbian Embassy, BAS organised Kuwait’s second international Women Volleyball Tournament with 8 Teams and Team Philippines winning the Olympia Cup. Also in March, together with the Romanian Embassy, BAS held the fourth International Men’s Volleyball Team with 12 Countries participating and the winner of the Independence Cup for the first time was the Kuwaiti Team.The other activities that BAS offers every year are Summer Camps where more than 300 students enjoy the Swimming and the Sports & Arts Camp. Plans are in full swing for this year with two Camps running for 5 weeks: One for the Swimming which will start on Sunday 11 June the Arts and Sports Camp from July 2-20 July.BAS will host for the second time a Swimming Gala which will take place on Saturday 03 June where the advanced students will have Swimming competitions and will receive their trophies and medals.For the next Academic Year 2017/2018 BAS has big plans with more tournaments including Basketball for children and for ladies, new activities including Volleyball and Netball, International trips: in October a Sports trip to Ireland and in February another trip to Europe.
