Brazilian driver De Ferran passes away at the age of 56

The Brazilian Automobile Federation reported last night that Gil de Ferran, a Brazilian driver of French origin and a former winner of the Indianapolis 500 race, passed away at the age of 56 following a heart attack.

De Ferran, who served as a department manager for the McLaren team in the Formula 1 World Championship, suffered the heart attack while at a private car club in Opa Locka, Florida. Despite being swiftly transported to a local hospital, he did not survive.

Giovanni Guerra, the president of the Brazilian Automobile Federation, expressed condolences in a statement, saying, “On behalf of myself and all members of the Brazilian Automobile Federation family, we extend our prayers to God for mercy upon our brother and seek to inspire patience among his family, friends, and the millions of fans worldwide.”
