WASHINGTON, Dec 5, (Agencies): A tragic incident unfolded in Nassau, Bahamas, on Monday, as a 44-year-old woman from Boston lost her life in a shark attack while enjoying a vacation, as reported by the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
The victim, who had recently celebrated her wedding on Sunday, was paddleboarding with a male relative at Sandals Royal Bahamian resort when the fatal encounter occurred around 11:15 am. According to witnesses, the pair was paddleboarding away from the shoreline in the waters at the rear of the resort in western New Providence when the shark attack took place.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force released a statement, stating, "Preliminary reports indicate that the victim, along with a male relative, was paddleboarding when she was bitten by a shark."
An on-duty lifeguard, who happened to be nearby, witnessed the attack and swiftly came to their aid by boat. The distressed pair was brought back to the shore, where the resort lifeguard performed CPR on the victim, as recounted by the police.
"The victim suffered significant trauma to the right side of her body. She was examined on the scene by emergency medical technicians, who concluded that she showed no vital signs of life," read the police statement.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the woman was declared dead after vital signs could not be detected. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters, even in idyllic vacation destinations.
