Born one minute apart twins to celebrate birthdays in two different years

Twin sisters born in Croatia will mark their birthdays on separate dates and different years, having been born with just a one-minute interval, as reported by a local hospital.

According to an official from a hospital in the coastal city of Split, one of the girls was born at 23:59 (22:59 GMT) on December 31, 2023, while her twin arrived one-minute past midnight on January 1, 2024.

Damir Roye, the head of the hospital’s perinatology department, described the situation as truly unusual.

Although he has witnessed twins born on different days in his career, this is the first instance of twins entering the world in different years.

Roye highlighted the significance of this brief time gap, emphasizing that the family will celebrate one twin’s birthday on New Year’s Eve and the other on New Year’s Day.
