Bogus degrees trigger full-scale gov’t sweep in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: While the government continues its efforts to deal with cases of forged Kuwaiti citizenship and prosecute those involved, it is also intensifying scrutiny over forged academic certificates, particularly among individuals holding high-ranking positions in the state, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

According to informed sources, the committee responsible for reviewing the certificates of employees in both the public and private sectors has decided to refer anyone found guilty of forgery to the Public Prosecution, following investigations conducted in accordance with the powers granted to it by the Council of Ministers. The review of certificates has begun and will continue until the task is fully completed. The state will hold forgers accountable under the law and will recover any public funds obtained unlawfully.

The sources indicated that the issue is receiving significant attention from high-ranking government officials due to its ethical and legal implications, as well as the government’s commitment to protecting public funds and ensuring fairness in employment for all employees without exception.

They revealed that high-level directives have been issued to expedite the review of certificates referred to the committee, while maintaining the rigor required for a thorough examination. The sources confirmed that the committee is prepared to handle dozens, and potentially hundreds, of certificates of questionable validity as soon as it receives the names of employees with suspected qualifications from all government agencies, ahead of the mid-December deadline.
