KUWAIT CITY, Feb 11: Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Sameeh Jawhar Hayat said the relationship of Kuwait with Iran, a large Muslim neighbor, is founded on mutual respect and appreciation, describing the ties as long-standing and historical. Hayat made the statement during the celebration organized by the Iranian Embassy on the occasion of Iran's 47th National Day. He conveyed the greetings of the top political leadership of Kuwait to the Iranian ambassador, as well as to the leadership, government, and friendly people of Iran. He confirmed that relations between the two countries continue to strengthen over time in various fields, with a shared desire to develop these relations during the current and upcoming phases, while hinting at the possibility of high-level visits taking place this year.

He reiterated the call of Kuwait for regional peace, constructive dialogue, and giving diplomacy enough space to shield the region from the specter of war. He stressed the importance of collective dialogue linking regional countries with Iran and other nations. He disclosed that joint committees addressing technical, economic, trade, consular and coast guard matters remain active, and convene alternately in Kuwait and Tehran, achieving positive outcomes that serve the interests of both countries and their peoples.

He also affirmed that consultations continue through diplomatic channels, indicating the results will be announced once finalized. Meanwhile, Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Totonji asserted that the Iranian-Kuwaiti relations are considered a model built on mutual respect and good neighborliness. He warmly welcomed the attendees, noting that the occasion marks a new stage of cooperation with the State of Kuwait. He wished Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad success, following the trust placed in him and expressed his hope for further prosperity and development in bilateral relations in the next phase.

He said the Iranian-Kuwaiti ties are deep-rooted, based not only on geography but also on the long history of civilizational and human interaction, as well as shared cultural and social values. He pointed out that the relationship dates back centuries, marked by trade and social interaction throughout the Gulf, which created an atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding. At the official level, he revealed that Iran was among the first countries to recognize the independence of Kuwait in 1961, while Kuwait was among the first to recognize the Islamic Republic of Iran following its establishment -- a step that reflected the depth of the relationship and mutual respect between the two countries. He stated that the exchange of visits and ongoing meetings between officials helped solidify political dialogue and expand cooperation in different fields.

He emphasized that Tehran highly appreciates the balanced and prudent role of Kuwait at the regional and international levels. He added that the two countries have significant opportunities to enhance economic, trade and investment cooperation, as well as collaboration in the fields of energy, maritime transport, and cultural and scientific exchange. He underscored the importance of activating joint committees and broadening the scope of partnership.

He also affirmed the commitment of his country to reinforce regional security and stability through cooperation with other nations, away from tensions. He stressed that dialogue and mutual understanding are the most effective means of addressing any outstanding issues, showing the positive spirit that characterizes the relationship. He added that Iran looks forward to a new phase of constructive cooperation with Kuwait based on mutual respect and shared interests, which will promote stability and prosperity in the region.
