KUWAIT CITY, Sept 30: The Court of Appeals adjourned to October 7 the case filed against a lawyer and his client who are accused of bribing an employee of the immigration authority. They were earlier sentenced to five-year imprisonment with hard labor, and the lawyer has been banned from practicing the legal profession for a period of ten years. Officers of the General Department of Airport Security, with the cooperation of the officers of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, arrested the lawyer who tried to smuggle through Kuwait International Airport an Arab resident entrusted to him, by offering a bribe to a female immigration officer working at the airport, specifically in the departures hall.

According to the case file, the immigration officer in question informed her seniors at the airport that the lawyer offered her a large sum of money in exchange for stamping the passport of his client – an Arab resident – to smuggle him out of the country because he is wanted by several security agencies, and several arrest and summons orders were issued against him. The Airport Security Department informed the Criminal Investigation Department’s Financial Crimes Department about the incident. The department in turn asked the immigration officer to go along with the lawyer and obtain the data about the expatriate who wanted to flee the country.
