Bid to smuggle big quantity of tobacco foiled

KUWAIT CITY, July 25: The Shuwaikh Port customs officers thwarted an attempt to smuggle into the country 2.405 million sachets of chewing tobacco into the country, reports Al-Rai daily. The contraband was hidden inside four 40-foot containers coming from a Gulf country. The customs administration said it received a tip-off from unidentified sources about the cargo and the movement of the containers was monitored and followed up by the inspection and warehousing control inspectors at the Shuwaikh Port, Friday evening and accordingly the customs officers ran a thorough check on the containers and discovered that the first container had 105,000 ‘Better’ brand tobacco sachets and 6,000 of Misk brand, the second contained 154,000 Best brand sachets and the third 2 million bags of Femel brand and in the fourth container the officers found 140,000 sachets of Best.

The daily did not say who imported the contraband but the contraband has been seized and the issue has been referred to the concerned authority. An unidentified Asian, meanwhile, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been deported from the country for committing a serious violation, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The daily said the man was arrested for appearing in a video clip on the ‘Tik Tok’ social media program wearing National Guard uniform. Following his arrest he admitted to the charges filed against him and said he got the uniform from his friend who works in a military equipment store.
