Bessent says Iran should spend money on its people, instead of funding militias

WASHINGTON, Aug 27: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday urged Iran to direct its resources toward its population rather than supporting allied armed groups abroad.

“As the Iranian people struggle to afford basic necessities, the corrupt regime continues to squander enormous sums abroad,” Bessent said in a post on X.

“Instead of funneling billions of dollars to its terrorist proxies, the regime should spend that money for its people,” he added.
