KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: Customs officials at Kuwait International Airport have foiled an attempt to smuggle psychotropic chemicals into the country.
The General Administration of Customs arrested a female passenger at Terminal 1 after she raised suspicion during routine inspection procedures upon arrival from Addis Ababa. A thorough search revealed approximately 3,458 tablets of the narcotic drug Tafrodol, which is listed under controlled psychotropic substances. The tablets had been concealed inside body powder containers in an apparent attempt to evade detection and smuggle the drugs into Kuwait without a valid medical prescription.
Customs authorities identified the passenger as a Beninese national employed as a domestic worker. Legal procedures were immediately initiated, including the preparation of a seizure report, and the confiscated substances were referred to the General Administration for Drug and Alcohol Control to complete further investigations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The General Administration of Customs reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security measures at air, land, and sea ports of entry and to combating all forms of narcotics and psychotropic substance smuggling, as part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard society and ensure national security.
