KUWAIT CITY, July 30: Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Sameeh Hayat said the relationship between Kuwait and the Republic of Benin has been growing steadily since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the celebration that the Embassy of Benin organized marking the 66th Independence Day of the country, Hayat also unveiled plans to sign new agreements covering food security and cybersecurity, while activating existing agreements to strengthen the partnership between the two countries and create broader opportunities for cooperation.
He pointed out that the Kuwaiti-Beninese relations are built on several memoranda of understanding and bilateral agreements, which have played a significant role in advancing cooperation between the two nations. He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continuously reviews Kuwait’s relations with African countries, emphasizing that there is a clear direction toward expanding the diplomatic presence of Kuwait in the African continent in the coming period. He disclosed that Kuwait has already started reinforcing cooperation with several African countries in the area of labor recruitment.
He said agreements have been concluded with a number of these countries to recruit skilled and other categories of workers, while efforts continue to expand this cooperation in line with the needs of the Kuwaiti labor market. On the other hand, Ambassador of the Republic of Benin Professor Badirou Aguemon reaffirmed the strength of relations between Benin and Kuwait, describing them as steadily expanding at the political and economic levels. He revealed the aspiration of his country to solidify this partnership and widen the scope of cooperation and investment in ways that serve the mutual interests of the two nations. Aguemon stated that Benin highly values its close ties with the State of Kuwait, praising the wisdom of the Kuwaiti leaders and their vital role in promoting security, stability, dialogue and cooperation at the regional and international levels.
