Belgium’s Ambassador to Kuwait Christian Dooms addressing the attendees

KUWAIT CITY, June 29: Belgian Ambassador to Kuwait Christian Dooms said many Kuwaitis remain unaware of the diverse destinations that Belgium offers, boasting a rich historical, cultural and natural heritage. In a statement to reporters on the sidelines of an event organized by the Belgian Embassy to promote Belgian tourism, Dooms revealed that Belgium offers a comprehensive tourism experience combining visits to historical cities, enjoyment of stunning natural landscapes, shopping and world-class festivals, in addition to experiencing renowned Belgian cuisine that caters to all tastes. He explained that the capital, Brussels, is not only important as the home of European Union institutions, but also a city rich in landmarks, museums and activities.

He asserted that Belgium’s small size allows visitors to easily travel between cities and enjoy multiple destinations within a single trip. He added that Belgium consists of prominent cities like Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp, as well as coastal resorts and the natural Ardennes region. He said Antwerp is world-renowned for its diamond trade, indicating that his country hosts international events, most notably the Tomorrowland Music Festival and the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit for the Formula 1 World Championship.

He also disclosed that he is currently working on the launch of direct flights between Kuwait and Belgium, clarifying that the lack of a direct route is one of the main factors limiting the number of Kuwaiti tourists. He cited the difficulty in accurately counting the number of passengers arriving in Belgium from Kuwait through indirect flights. He indicated that the next phase will involve hosting representatives from Belgian travel companies and agencies in Kuwait to promote tourism opportunities, expressing his confidence that this step will solidify tourism exchange between the two countries. He then pointed out that investment cooperation between Kuwait and Belgium is at a good level, particularly in the petrochemical sector.

He is hoping to expand the horizons of economic cooperation in a way that serves the interests of both countries. He added that the Port of Antwerp is currently participating in a public tender in Kuwait, hoping this participation will yield positive results in the coming period. He affirmed the continuation of communication between the two sides to strengthen defense cooperation, adding that the Belgian military attaché recently visited Kuwait. He stated that another visit is expected in September or October to continue discussions and explore opportunities for cooperation.
