Iraq and UAE players clash for possession during the 2026 World Cup qualifier in the UAE.

BASRA, Iraq, Nov 17: Basra International Stadium is set to host a crucial showdown tonight at 7:00 p.m., as Iraq takes on the United Arab Emirates in the second leg of the final Asian playoff for 2026 World Cup qualification.

The winner will advance to the global playoff in March, the final stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Iraq enjoys a slight advantage, having secured a 1–1 draw in the first leg in Abu Dhabi. Iraqi coach Graham Arnold has called up Mohammed Jawad of Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya to strengthen the attack after striker Ali Al-Hamadi of Luton Town suffered an injury in the first leg. Al-Hamadi scored Iraq’s goal in Abu Dhabi and was a key offensive weapon before his injury. Arnold also added Ammar Mohsen from the Swedish side Brage to the squad, while Rabeen Sulaqa, Youssef Al-Amin, Maathar Majid, and Ibrahim Baish remain sidelined due to injuries.

For the UAE “White Team,” victory—or a high-scoring draw of 2–2 or more—is essential to secure passage to the global playoff. A repeat 1–1 draw would push the match into extra time.

The match promises to be a thrilling encounter as both teams fight for a place in the next stage of World Cup qualification.
