NEW DELHI, June 30: Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport have arrested a Bangladeshi passenger for attempting to smuggle more than one kilogram of gold concealed inside an airport washroom.

The passenger, who arrived from Dubai on IndiGo Flight 6E-1464 on June 27, was identified based on suspicious transit travel patterns and placed under surveillance before being intercepted in the departure area.

During questioning, the passenger admitted to hiding three oval-shaped pouches wrapped inside a dark blue sock in the flush-button cavity of a washroom. Customs officers recovered the concealed pouches, which contained gold paste.

After extraction, officials recovered 1,141.5 grams of gold valued at ₹1.47 crore (approximately ₹14.7 million).

The gold was seized under the provisions of India's Customs Act, 1962, and the passenger was arrested. Authorities said further investigations are underway.
