MUMBAI, Oct 7 : Immigration officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport have intercepted three foreign nationals from Bangladesh, Nepal and Afghanistan for allegedly obtaining Indian passports using forged documents and false information.

The three men were intercepted on October 3 and 4 and subsequently arrested. Mumbai police are investigating whether agents helped them obtain Indian identity documents and passports issued from Mumbai and Kolkata.

Bangladeshi national Robindra Mondal, 48, was intercepted on October 3 while allegedly attempting to travel to Abu Dhabi on an Indian passport before continuing to Paris. He was scheduled to board Etihad flight EY207. Immigration records reportedly linked him to two Bangladeshi passports issued in Dhaka under the name Rabindra Mondol. Police said Mondal admitted that he had entered India illegally and later obtained Aadhaar and PAN cards before securing an Indian passport from Kolkata on May 11, 2026, using allegedly false details.

Nepalese national Deepak Giri, 40, was intercepted after arriving from Kathmandu on an IndiGo flight on October 3. Immigration officials reportedly became suspicious because of his frequent travel to Kathmandu and his inability to provide satisfactory information. Records showed that Giri was born in Ramechhap, Nepal, held Nepalese citizenship and had married a Nepalese citizen in 2022. Police allege that he obtained an Indian passport from Mumbai on September 16, 2021, using false or incorrect information.

The third suspect, Afghan national Taza Khan Zurmati, was intercepted on October 4 while allegedly attempting to travel to Dubai under the name Ibrahim Khan. Officials reportedly became suspicious after finding Afghan visa stickers inside his Indian passport. A biometric search allegedly uncovered two Afghan passports in the names of Taza Khan Zurmati and Taza Khan.

Police said Zurmati first entered India in 2016 on a medical attendant visa and later returned for medical treatment in 2017. He allegedly overstayed after his visa expired and subsequently obtained Aadhaar, PAN and voter ID cards. Investigators allege that he then used these documents and false information to obtain Indian passports from the Mumbai Passport Office in 2018 and 2019 under the name Ibrahim Khan.

Police are now investigating the alleged document-forging network and agents who may have facilitated the acquisition of Indian identity documents and passports.
