Bangladeshi Man Gets Life Sentence, Indian Man’s Death Penalty Upheld by Kuwait Court

KUWAIT CITY, Jun 22: The Court of Cassation has overturned a death sentence issued against a Bangladeshi defendant convicted of killing his friend and stealing his mobile phone, replacing the penalty with life imprisonment.

The Public Prosecution had charged the defendant with the premeditated murder of the victim after allegedly assaulting him in a way that led to his death, before taking his mobile phone.

The case was referred to criminal court, where earlier stages of litigation ended with a death sentence. However, the Court of Cassation issued a final ruling commuting the sentence to life imprisonment.

In a separate case, the Court of Appeal upheld a lower court ruling sentencing an Indian defendant to death after he was convicted of deliberately killing his wife.

According to the case file, the crime occurred following family disputes. The defendant assaulted his wife, causing injuries that led to her death. He was later referred to criminal trial, where he was convicted and sentenced to execution.

The Court of Appeal confirmed the lower court’s ruling, upholding the death sentence against him.
