Bangladesh Raises Fuel Prices for Second Time in Six Weeks

DHAKA, Jun 1: Bangladesh has raised retail petroleum prices in line with movements in the international market, according to a notification issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.

The new prices came into effect from 12:00am on June 1 and mark the second increase in six weeks.

Under the revised rates, diesel will be sold at Tk 115 per litre, octane at Tk 145 per litre, petrol at Tk 140 per litre, and kerosene at Tk 135 per litre. Except for diesel, all other fuels saw an increase of Tk 5 per litre.

The ministry said the adjustment reflects fluctuations in global oil prices. Bangladesh operates an automatic fuel pricing mechanism introduced in 2024, which links domestic prices to international market trends, exchange rate movements, and import costs.

The last revision took place on April 18, when prices were increased to a record level following subsidy adjustments amid volatility in global energy markets.
