Bangladesh Imports another 8,000 Metric Tons of Diesel from India

DHAKA, Apr 12: Bangladesh has imported an additional 8,000 metric tons of diesel from India through the Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline, officials confirmed.

The latest shipment has reached the Parbatipur depot of Padma Oil Company Limited, with distribution already underway. Officials said pumping began from the Numaligarh Refinery in India on April 7, with the full consignment arriving by midnight on Friday.

Kazi Md. Robiul Alam, an operations manager at Meghna Petroleum Limited, said diesel imports via the pipeline are part of an ongoing process. He added that another shipment of around 5,000 metric tons is expected to begin on April 17, subject to favorable conditions.

Officials at the Parbatipur depot confirmed that current diesel stocks remain sufficient to meet demand.

With the latest delivery, Bangladesh has imported a total of 25,000 metric tons of diesel from India in multiple phases over recent weeks, including earlier shipments in March and April.

Since 2021, Bangladesh has been regularly importing refined diesel from India through the pipeline connected to the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam, strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries.
