KUWAIT CITY, March 28: The 48th Anniversary of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh was celebrated in the Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait on March 26, in a befitting manner. To celebrate the day, the Mission drew up elaborate programs which included rendering of the National Anthem. His Excellency S. M. Abul Kalam, the Ambassador of Bangladesh hoisted the National Flag in presence of embassy officials, officers of the Bangladesh Military Contingent to Kuwait, Bangladesh Biman, a huge number of Bangladeshi community members and electronic and print media representatives.

The discussion program began with recitation from the Holy Quran. Special dua and munajat were offered seeking divine blessings for the freedom fighters who laid down their valuable lives for the independence of the country, the wounded freedom fighters, and for continued peace and progress of the country. One minute silence was observed in honor of the martyrs of the liberation war in 1971.

His Excellency the Ambassador S. M. Abul Kalam along with other officers placed floral tributes before the portrait of the Father of the Nation. Messages given by the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh were read out by officers of the embassy.

Expatriate community leaders, professionals, freedom fighters, leaders of different organizations took part in the discussion. Md. Anisuzzaman, Counsellor (Political) and Head of Chancery anchored the entire program.

In his speech, Ambassador Abul Kalam, highlighted various important events leading the nation to the war of independence under the leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He reiterated that as a nation we will not forget the supreme sacrifice of the freedom fighters. He urged the community members to get inspirations from the war of independence and devote themselves to buildup the country through their patriotism and hard work.

He also requested all to ensure a peaceful co-existence of all Bangladesh expatriates in Kuwait. At the end of the morning session refreshments were served for all the guests. Same day in the evening (07:00-09:00 pm) the embassy arranged a reception on the occasion of Independence & National Day of Bangladesh at JW Marriott Hotel in Kuwait City. More than 350 guests attended the program including a good number of diplomats, high official dignitaries of Kuwait, good number of journalists in Kuwait and Bangladesh expatriates in Kuwait. His Excellency Dr Khaled Ali Al-Fadhel, Hon’ble Oil Minister, government of the State of Kuwait was present as Guest of Honour of the day. The entire program was covered by electronic and print media representatives
