TEHRAN, Jul 5: Bandar Abbas International Airport in southern Iran resumed operations on Sunday after a four-month suspension, with its first passenger flight arriving from Mashhad, according to Iranian state media.

The airport, which serves the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf coast, is expected to gradually restore domestic services, with flights to Tehran, Shiraz, Yazd and Mashhad being added to its schedule in phases.

Meanwhile, Iranian authorities announced temporary airspace closures to accommodate funeral ceremonies for late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

State media said Tehran’s airspace will be completely closed on Monday during the funeral procession in the capital.

Airspace over Mashhad, in northeastern Iran, will also be closed on Thursday for Khamenei’s burial ceremony.

The temporary restrictions are expected to affect both domestic and international flight operations during the scheduled events.
