MANAMA, Mar 28: The Bahrain Ministry of Interior confirmed that authorities have launched an investigation into the death of a 32-year-old detainee, Mohammed Abdulmohsen Mohammed, following reports circulating on social media.
In a statement, the ministry said the deceased had been detained by the National Intelligence Agency on charges of espionage, including allegedly providing sensitive information to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps related to critical national infrastructure, with the intent of facilitating attacks against the Kingdom. The arrest was carried out under a legally issued warrant.
Authorities also dismissed images circulating online that purportedly show injuries sustained by the detainee, describing them as “inaccurate and misleading” and alleging they were deliberately shared to influence public opinion.
The case has been referred to the Special Investigation Unit, which will conduct a full and independent probe into the circumstances surrounding the death, including the cause of injuries.
Meanwhile, sirens were sounded in parts of the country, with officials urging citizens and residents to remain calm and proceed to the nearest safe location. The ministry added that Civil Defence teams successfully extinguished a fire at a facility targeted in what it described as Iranian aggression.
