MANAMA, July 16: Bahrain's military said on Thursday that it intercepted and destroyed several Iranian missiles and drones targeting the kingdom, accusing Tehran of continuing what it described as a campaign of attacks against civilians.

In a statement, the Bahrain Defence Force said its air defence systems successfully neutralized the incoming projectiles and confirmed that all military units remain on the highest level of readiness to defend the country against any threats.

Authorities urged residents to avoid approaching any suspicious objects that could be remnants of the intercepted missiles or drones and to immediately report such items to the relevant authorities.

The military condemned the targeting of civilians and private property, saying the use of missiles and drones against non-military targets constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law.

The announcement comes amid escalating regional tensions following exchanges of military strikes between Iran and the United States and a series of reported attacks across the Gulf region. Bahrain did not immediately provide details on the number of projectiles intercepted or report any casualties or damage.
