MANAMA, July 17: Bahrain said its air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed several Iranian aerial threats on Friday, accusing Tehran of continuing attacks targeting civilians and civilian areas in the kingdom.
In a statement, the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) said its air defense units detected and neutralized several incoming missiles and drones, adding that all military units remain at the highest level of combat readiness to respond to any further threats.
The military urged citizens and residents to stay away from any suspicious objects or debris that may have fallen from intercepted missiles or drones and to immediately report such items to the relevant authorities.
The BDF condemned what it described as attacks targeting civilians and private property, stating that the use of missiles and drones against civilian areas constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law.
The latest interceptions came amid escalating regional tensions and followed the activation of air raid sirens across Bahrain earlier in the day, as authorities urged the public to seek shelter and follow official safety instructions. Bahraini authorities said security and defense agencies continue to closely monitor the situation and remain fully prepared to safeguard the kingdom's security.
