Bahrain Busts Alleged Spy Network Linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard

MANAMA, Mar 15: Authorities in Bahrain have arrested five individuals and identified a sixth suspect who is currently abroad for allegedly collecting and passing sensitive information to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and recruiting operatives for terrorist activities, the Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday.

In a statement carried by the state news agency, the ministry said the suspects were involved in gathering precise information and transmitting it to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps through terrorist elements based in Iran. The activities were allegedly aimed at undermining Bahrain’s sovereignty, targeting security authorities and economic facilities, and spreading fear among citizens and residents.

The five suspects arrested are Abbas Abdullah Habib (39), Yousif Ahmed Mansoor Sarhan (25), Mohammed Fadhel Hameed (39), Sahlan Abdulredha Ali (27), and Mohammed Hadi Hassan (37). Authorities also identified Ahmed Yousif Jassim Sarhan (37) as a fugitive believed to be outside the country.

According to investigators, the first suspect — who reportedly has a prior criminal record linked to terrorist offences — confessed to receiving intensive training at camps run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The training allegedly included trafficking individuals and recruiting operatives to carry out terrorist plots.

Officials said the suspects photographed and recorded the coordinates of several vital locations, including certain hotels in Bahrain, and transmitted the data to the IRGC. Authorities claim the information helped facilitate attempts to target those sites during the ongoing Iranian aggression.

Legal action has been taken against the suspects, and the five individuals in custody have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further proceedings.
