BAGHDAD, Jun 28: Iraqi special security forces deployed across Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone early Sunday as authorities reportedly carried out a series of arrests linked to corruption investigations.
A security source told Al-Mada news outlet that special forces were stationed near several sensitive government headquarters, with security tightened at key entrances and roads leading into the Green Zone.
According to the source, the deployment coincided with the execution of judicial arrest warrants targeting political figures, government officials and security personnel whose names were allegedly included in corruption and abuse-of-influence case files.
Videos circulating on social media showed several main gates of the Green Zone closed, while tanks, armored vehicles and other military equipment were seen deployed throughout the area.
Iraqi security and government authorities have not issued an official statement explaining the security operation or confirming the reported arrests.
