KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has stopped the Holy Quran recitation registration for new residents in the Capital and Hawally governorates, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting reliable sources.

Sources told the daily this decision was taken because the number of residents in the two governorates has increased remarkably. Sources disclosed there are around 12,000 new registrants including 800 citizens.

Sources pointed out this is a violation of the decision of the Awqaf Ministry regarding the number of registrants as follows: 70 percent Kuwaitis and other GCC citizens and 30 percent residents in some areas.

Sources affirmed a new mechanism will be announced soon, clarifying the ministry does not discriminate in the registration of those wishing to memorize and recite the Holy Quran.
