Available land suitable for building 159,600 housing units

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 25: A government inventory shows the stateowned vacant lands are suitable for building 159,600 housing units in urban areas, reports Al-Qabas daily. The report, a copy of which has been obtained by the daily, indicates that more than 155,000 housing units are concentrated in the west, south and north of Sabah Al-Ahmad. The Ministerial Public Services Committee recently discussed the report prepared by the working group formed by the Minister of State for Housing Affairs Shaya Al-Shaya, which includes lands suitable for residential care purposes, the existing obstacles, and the jurisdiction for each of vacant plot.

The report shows there are obstacles preventing the allocation of some vacant lands for construction, including the site for the Applied Institute of Higher Education, a garden owned by the state, the Hunting and Equestrian Club, and a site for the University of Munichin South Sulaibiya area. As for the obstacles facing the plots of South Ali Sabah Al-Salem, they are because of the overheard power lines. It is noteworthy to the Minister has issued a decision to form a team to survey the state-owned vacant lands suitable for housing projects, to undertake the following — identifying vacant plots of land owned suitable for residential care purposes. Determining the area and the approximate number of housing units for each; determining the main obstacles and determining the jurisdiction to which it belongs and to make appropriate recommendations regarding the best use of each of these lands.
