KUWAIT CITY, Jan 7: The 12th edition of the Atyab Al-Marshoud International Show Jumping Championship gets underway today at 2:00 p.m. at the Kuwait Equestrian Center, featuring top male and female riders competing across multiple categories. The championship brings together participants from Kuwait alongside riders from Arab, Gulf, and international nations.
Walid Al-Marshoud, Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee, said preparations for the event began months ago, immediately following the conclusion of the previous edition. He stressed that the championship’s real success lies in the strong public turnout for the accompanying international festival, which includes the show jumping competitions and various related activities, describing it as a major sporting “carnival.”
Marshoud Al-Marshoud, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee, highlighted the deep-rooted connection between the Al-Marshoud family and equestrian sports, noting that their father, Walid Suleiman Al-Marshoud, has been passionate about horse riding for many years. He added that Atyab Al-Marshoud’s long-standing support for equestrianism is reflected in the championship, which has been held for more than 11 years and continues to grow in stature and popularity each year.
Meanwhile, Saud Abdulrazzaq Al-Marshoud, a member of the Supreme Organizing Committee, revealed that the prize money for the top finishers has been increased to more than KD 50,000. He added that the championship is classified as a three-star event, with expanded sponsorship and the participation of riders from a wide range of countries.
